One of the most frequent comments I get is about an egg. Yes, an egg.
It’s from a scene where we’re getting ready and Janet hands me an egg she made me for breakfast. We get so many comments about it- how sweet that she made me an egg, what a good companion. First off, yes, she’s amazing, and she was such a great companion. She made me breakfast many times and it was delicious. Janet’s an amazing cook.
But…. this story has a bit of a background.
As part of the filming, the camera crew wanted to film an entire “getting ready” sequence. However, because of other factors, the morning it was scheduled to be filmed, the crew didn’t get to us until almost 10 AM. To a missionary, 10 AM is late! We had already eaten, showered and put on a bit of makeup (uh yeah, I was not being filmed totally makeup free), and studied.
The number one thing during filming was that it needed to be authentic. This was one time when that varied a bit. The crew came in, filmed us running, then wanted us to “eat breakfast.” We grabbed cereal, since that was pretty much what we ate. The camera crew looked at each other and said, “No cereal! All the elders ate cereal. You can’t eat cereal! Eat eggs or something!”
We reminded them that we had appointments soon and we both still had to actually get ready for the day. Janet and I looked at each other, laughed, and said, “How about, we’ll eat eggs if you make them.”

I don’t think either of us thought the crew would actually make us breakfast. We were taking turns getting ready in the bathroom. While Janet waited, she went into the kitchen. I heard her laughing and peeked around the corner to see her pulling 2 cooked eggs off the stove! She told me she had made me an egg, trying not to laugh. Watch closely in the clip as I grab my plate, and you’ll see Janet trying to hide her completely full plate of food in the sink. She didn’t realize at the time the sink would be in full view of the camera. I tried so hard not to giggle as I ate the egg.
It was a funny moment, and one I didn’t even know would make the footage, much less be a moment that EVERYONE would talk to me about.
And above and beyond… in the back, a camera guy was ironing some clothes for us. They really were the best.
